It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
