Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Whenever a prominent awards ceremony draws close, there’s always an outcry to include fresh award types to honor underappreciated efforts and fill the spirits of fans with niche passions.

A fellow writer has already made advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me for pushing forward because like all dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent above others. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Organizing artistic expressions isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why movie academies don’t do it. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, which are so diverse they hardly constitute as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies presently include award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Different situation exists for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges from additional release. Which classification works among existing types? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Just some brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Significance of Puzzle Games

These are often compact experiences, however the design in brain-teasers holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting across multiple categories.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers are working at the hard edge game development, creating some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
