Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior political figure said the attack rendered him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This act affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
